Closes #26.

Outcome

Make workspace identity an explicit, fail-closed boundary across the executable reference store, lifecycle service, authorization wrapper, pagination, and HTTP transport while preserving the stable-ID isolation contracts already enforced by Plan, queue/worker, audit, and provider credential domain models.

Changes

  • add opaque validated WorkspaceScope and canonical non-empty WorkspaceScopeSet values
  • reject syntactically valid IDs whose resource-kind prefix is not wsp_ before a store callback can execute
  • partition the memory reference store by workspace and reject missing, malformed, oversized, or colliding scope sets before callbacks execute
  • require explicit workspace identity for resource and Operation reads and all addressed mutations
  • bind lifecycle and authorization idempotency hashes to workspace identity
  • require explicit root-list scope sets, exactly one child-list scope, and bind pagination tokens to the canonical scope-set digest
  • preserve authorized child reads by carrying workspace and resource identifiers separately
  • preserve the public Operation route through bounded, separately scoped lookup and fail closed on ambiguous identities
  • document the executable isolation matrix and the production proof deferred to PostgreSQL, durable queue/worker, and provider-adapter issues

Acceptance evidence

  • Cross-workspace negative tests cover CRUD, list, Plans, audit, queue/worker contracts, and provider credential adapter inputs.
  • Authorization uses stable hierarchy IDs and member directories; identical display names do not participate in scope selection.
  • Store callbacks and query helpers reject missing scope before observing or mutating state.

The named proof is indexed in docs/security/workspace-isolation.md. The exact 18-test acceptance suite passed across isolation, memory storage, authorization, reconciliation, audit, credential, reference lifecycle, and authorization-wrapper packages.

Validation

  • ./hack/dev check — passed, including gosec, supply-chain policy, 139 threat-model negative fixtures, and OpenAPI 100/100
  • go test -race ./... — passed
  • ./hack/dev coverage — passed at 80.3% statements (80.0% required)
  • focused affected-package tests with -count=100 — passed
  • exact named isolation-matrix suite with -count=1 — passed
  • ./hack/verify-dco.sh 5d5620b531ceddfd961cc4cf1c1480a243d51efb 696522c408f83488fae896ebf14c67a49712ff05 — passed for both commits
  • README reviewed; no README change is required because the reference-server and security evidence documents are the owning documentation
  • OpenAPI and reference contract golden digests are unchanged

Exact patch

  • base: 5d5620b531ceddfd961cc4cf1c1480a243d51efb
  • head: 696522c408f83488fae896ebf14c67a49712ff05
  • patch SHA-256: 1c5c0394da5b58feeb1a5980a2329e22d516efdf8d267330db18d83907cab87d

Risk and boundaries

Impact is high because this changes a privileged isolation boundary; regression likelihood is low with strong exact-head coverage. There is no persisted schema migration, so the commit is independently revertible. PostgreSQL composite constraints/RLS/outbox remain issue #30; durable queue/worker implementations remain issues #31–#33; real provider adapters remain their dependency-gated issues. This PR establishes and verifies the stable workspace contracts those implementations must preserve.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change introduces validated Workspace scopes and applies them to reference storage, CRUD, operations, lists, pagination, authorization, HTTP handlers, tests, and isolation documentation. The memory adapter now partitions data by Workspace and rejects unscoped or colliding reads.

Changes

Workspace isolation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Workspace scope contracts
internal/core/domain/isolation/*, internal/core/ports/reference_store.go, internal/core/service/reference/types.go
Adds validated, canonical WorkspaceScope and WorkspaceScopeSet types. Store methods, mutation commands, and list queries now require explicit Workspace scope data.
Workspace-partitioned memory store
internal/adapters/store/memory/*
Partitions resources and operations by Workspace ID. Validates scopes before callbacks, merges scoped views, and rejects duplicate identities across scopes.
Scoped reference service and pagination
internal/core/service/reference/*
Threads Workspace IDs through mutations, reads, resource loading, authorization state, lists, page-token bindings, idempotency keys, and replay keys.
Authorization, transport, and isolation evidence
internal/core/service/referenceauthorization/*, internal/transport/http/reference.go, docs/security/workspace-isolation.md, docs/reference-server.md
Passes Workspace IDs through authorization and HTTP handlers. Adds cross-Workspace tests and documents isolation invariants, evidence, and reference-store limitations.

Invalid ownership scopes can be accepted and persisted, undermining the workspace-isolation contract. This should be fixed before merge.

Explanation

The PR implements validated workspace scopes, in-memory workspace partitions, scoped CRUD and list operations, stable-ID authorization, and cross-workspace reference tests for [#26]. The isolation matrix also records plan, audit, queue, worker, and provider-contract tests. However, the PR documentation explicitly states that PostgreSQL ownership constraints, scoped query builders, forced RLS, durable queue/worker implementations, and production audit/provider integrations are deferred. It also states that no database or queue constraint tests exist in this reference-only implementation. This does not meet [#26] acceptance criteria for fail-closed storage constraints/query helpers and database/queue constraint evidence.

Resolution

Implement and test the required production persistence and queue fail-closed boundaries for [#26]. Add reviewable database and queue constraint tests, including missing-scope rejection and cross-workspace isolation, and preserve the stable Workspace ID through the production audit and adapter execution paths.
